Canada's federal ministers and health officials provided an update on the country's ongoing response to COVID-19 on Friday, discussing the importance of targeting young individuals amid the pandemic.
Chief public health officer of Canada Dr. Theresa Tam and Health Minister Patty Hajdu answered questions regarding a campaign targeting young people amid the pandemic, saying that as colleges and schools reopen, Public Health will have a role to play along with researchers in closely monitoring how illnesses spread.
Hajdu addressed the recent COVID-19-related death of a 19-year-old in Quebec, saying it is a “difficult time” for young Canadians amid the pandemic, and that it is important to “understand the language of youth.”
She added they are looking at “how best to reach Canadians of all different kinds” using the appropriate messaging and channels.
Tam reported 123,873 cases of COVID-19 in Canada, including 9,054 deaths as of Friday. She stated that 89% of people have recovered.
