New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs and the province's chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell provided an update Monday into the province’s ongoing COVID-19 response.

Russell said New Brunswick has no new COVID-19 cases to report, however, the province is "nowhere near ready to declare victory" over the novel coronavirus outbreak. Russell said that at this stage in the fight, "success is not just about not having new cases," but it's about knowing how many cases of COVID-19 the province really has, how widespread it has become and that the health-care system could manage the virus.

She also said the province is currently in the early stages of recovery from the first wave of COVID-19. The doctor stressed the importance of not breaking the two-family household bubble, which is one of the province's loosened measures allowing families to come in contact with only one other household during this time.

Law enforcement in New Brunswick has been enforcing physical distancing rules. In total, the province has issued 22 tickets over the past week, Higgs says overall 77 tickets have been issued to those not following the rules set out by the province.
